Hemingway Scott was founded by Simon Scott, who has specialised in recruiting lawyers for major offshore law firms in the Caribbean and Bermuda for the last seventeen years and formerly practised as an employment lawyer in the UK.
Prior to founding Hemingway Scott, Simon ran the offshore desk at a boutique international legal recruitment agency and a major global legal recruitment agency. Simon has personal experience of living and working offshore, having spent over four years in the Cayman Islands from 2009 to 2014. Simon is a graduate of Cambridge University, where he read law at Queens' College.
Many of the candidates Simon has placed at offshore firms over the last seventeen years are now Partners, including at all of the 'offshore Magic Circle' firms (Appleby, Carey Olsen, Conyers, Harneys, Maples, Mourant, Ogier and Walkers). Several of those Partners are now Head of Department or Managing Partner in their respective jurisdictions.
Simon's main focus is on the Cayman, BVI and Bermuda markets, but he also has dealings with the Channels Islands, London, Dubai, Hong Kong and Singapore offices of the major offshore firms.

* Please note - in order for an expat lawyer based outside the Caribbean to get admitted and practise in either Bermuda, BVI or Cayman - (i) they first need to be qualified in one or other of the following jurisdictions - England & Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore or South Africa (exactly which one of those applies depends on which offshore jurisdiction they want to practise in), and (ii) they also need to have gained the requisite minimum level of post-admission experience.
